More About Molly

Hi! I’m Molly Horgan, a psychotherapist based in New York City. I work with young adults and adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, and relationship challenges. In our work together, I’ll help you slow down and relate to yourself with compassion and care. The patterns you may be struggling with developed for good reasons. Themes of anxiety, perfectionism, self-criticism, and shame all help people adapt and survive. If these patterns no longer serve you, they deserve witnessing and understanding instead of judgment. Therapy can help you explore their origins and how to relate to them differently.

Specialties & Who I Work With

I specialize in supporting people who are:

  • Experiencing anxiety in social settings, work, or relationships

  • Healing from trauma, shame, and challenging family dynamics

  • High achievers who may hold themselves to high standards and struggle to slow down or rest

  • College students or new grads who are navigating stress, identity shifts, relationship changes, and uncertainty about what comes next

Social Anxiety

Many of my clients experience anxiety in social settings and relationships. Social anxiety often arises because past stressful relationship experiences have resulted in your mind and body associating social situations with threat. Therapy can restore a felt sense of safety, helping your nervous system recognize that present-day social interactions are different from past threats. Together, we will uncover the roots of the anxiety and identify strategies to help you feel more connected to yourself and others.

Trauma

I support clients who have experienced relational trauma and may now experience shame, difficulty relaxing, or self-criticism. My work is grounded in the belief that all symptoms are adaptive and make sense. Together, we will focus on creating greater emotional safety and expanding your innate capacity to stay present with your inner experiences.

College Students and New Grads

Being a young adult is hard, and I get it. You may find yourself questioning your identity, comparing yourself to peers, or feeling pressure to succeed in ways that don’t fully align with who you are. I offer a supportive space to help you better understand yourself, build confidence in your decisions, and connect with your inner wisdom.

Therapy Approach

My work is relational and rooted in compassionate curiosity and caring presence. I incorporate a range of modalities, including Psychodynamic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I believe that our experiences, relationships, and environments shape how we move through the world, often in ways that exist outside of our awareness. Together, we will explore patterns that may no longer be serving you, deepen your self-understanding, and create space for new possibilities.

I strive to create an environment where you feel understood, supported, and able to show up as your authentic self. Whether you are navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, or the impact of past experiences, we will work collaboratively to help you feel more connected to yourself and better equipped to move through life’s challenges.

Background & Training

I received my Master of Social Work from Columbia University and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wellesley College. My training includes Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy, and I’m currently pursuing a certificate in Internal Family Systems. Before entering the mental health field, I worked in corporate recruiting and onboarding, where I enjoyed supporting people through career transitions. I eventually decided to dedicate my career not only to helping people with their work lives but with every facet of their well-being.

Location & Availability

I see clients in person at our Midtown Manhattan office near Grand Central, and virtually across New York State. I accept Aetna insurance, offer sliding scale options, and provide superbills for other plans. Sessions are available on weekdays and evenings.
