More About Sylvia

Hi, I’m Sylvia. I am a mental health counselor who is passionate about helping clients feel more at peace with themselves and their lives. I offer a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can slow down, explore yourself, and begin to make sense of your experiences at your own pace. I view therapy as a collaborative process where you are the expert on your own life, and I am here to guide and support you along the way.

Specialties & Who I Work With

I work with individuals across a range of backgrounds, genders, and life stages. I have experience supporting clients navigating eating disorders and body image concerns, anxiety, OCD, agoraphobia, trauma, familial conflict and estrangement, and adult life transitions. As a new mother, I also hold a growing interest in supporting individuals through the transition into parenthood, including birth-related and perinatal challenges.

Therapy Approach

My approach is gentle, person-centered, and collaborative. I draw from a range of modalities, including CBT, mindfulness, and psychodynamic therapy, as well as narrative and creative approaches when helpful. I view the therapeutic relationship itself as an important part of the healing process, and I approach it with deep care and intention. I strive to create a space where clients feel safe to lead, explore, and express themselves freely, while also feeling supported and gently guided. I tailor my work to each individual, recognizing that every client’s needs and goals are unique.

Background & Training

I received my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Hunter College. I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and working with OCD, and I am continuing to deepen my training in the treatment of eating disorders.

I offer both in person and virtual appointments. For in-person sessions, the office is located at 315 Madison Ave. I accept Aetna and Cigna insurance, offer sliding scale options, and provide superbills for other plans. I have availability to see clients weekdays and evenings.
