Hi, I’m Sam. I’m a psychotherapist based in New York, and I work with young adults and adults who are trying to better understand themselves and feel more at ease in their lives. I also have a particular interest in working with men who want to connect more deeply with their emotions and how they show up in relationships.
Specialties & Who I Work With
I often work with people who are:
– Navigating anxiety, self-doubt, or feeling stuck
– Exploring identity around culture, religion, gender, or sexuality
– Working through relationship challenges or patterns
– Processing family dynamics or past experiences
– Moving through life transitions or periods of uncertainty
A lot of the people I work with feel like they’re living in between different versions of themselves. Sometimes that shows up as anxiety or overthinking; other times it’s a quieter sense that something feels off. Many are used to showing up for others, but struggle to extend that same understanding toward themselves.
For some, this is connected to family, culture, or expectations they’ve carried for a long time. For others, it’s about figuring out who they are outside of those expectations. Therapy can be a space to slow down, make sense of these patterns, and begin relating to yourself with more honesty and compassion.
Therapy Approach
My approach is relational, humanistic, and client-centered. I draw from psychodynamic work as well as ACT, CBT, and DBT, but more than anything, I focus on the therapeutic relationship and what feels most helpful to you in the moment. I try to bring warmth, curiosity, and at times humor into the room.
I don’t see people as broken. Most of what we struggle with makes sense when you understand where it comes from. My role is to sit with you, help you make sense of things, and support you in reconnecting with parts of yourself that may have been pushed aside.
Background & Training
I earned my Master’s degree in Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and have training in trauma-informed care, psychodynamic therapy, and behavioral approaches. I currently work in an Article 31 outpatient mental health clinic, where I support adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and other ongoing mental health challenges. My experience also includes work in a charter high school, child welfare, and a family shelter, which has shaped a grounded, flexible approach focused on the person—not just the diagnosis.
Location & Availability
I see clients in person at our Midtown Manhattan office near Grand Central, and virtually across New York State. I accept Aetna insurance, offer sliding scale options, and provide superbills for other plans. Sessions are available weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
